US has been experiencing a surge in nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) cases which is mainly related to obesity and diabetes epidemics. As a result, the proportion of liver transplantations performed for NASH cirrhosis rose dramatically from roughly 1% in 1997-2003 to more than 7% in 2010.
