Plication of previous Gastric Band Procedure

If you have not lost adequate weight with the band by itself, you may want to consider the new "Plication procedure" or a "banded plication" procedure. The band is either left in place or may be repositioned. The plication procedure is then used to narrow the stomach into the size of a banana. This decreases the volume of food a patient can eat. Any associated problems such as a hiatal hernia or band slippage will also be addressed at the time of your revision surgery.
Banded Plication
A patient typically begins to lose weight as a result of the plication portion of the operation. A few months to a year later, you may then begin to have band adjustments again, generally with better results. This is because the band and plication work synergistically to accomplish a greater weight loss than either procedure alone. It may also reduce the number of adjustments that you will need to have done.
The procedure can be done laparoscopically on an outpatient basis.
