Single Incision Lap band® Surgery (SILS) means fewer scars for you and a shorter healing time, if you decide to have Lap-band® weight loss surgery. It's done using newly available advanced laparoscopic surgical instruments. More importantly it requires an experienced surgeon who is highly skilled in laparoscopic surgery. Our surgeons are the first surgeons to do SILS in Washington state. This is because we are proctoring for Allergan® and Ethicon®, the producers of the gastric bands. Dr. Michaelson performed the first single incision Lap band® surgery (SILS) in Washington in early April 2009 at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery. Since that time Dr Chock and Dr Montgomery have also successfully accomplished this newest version of Lap Band® surgery.
Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS) uses only one incision
Our surgeons are able to perform the procedure through a single skin incision located just below the left ribs. By doing so, we are able to use a single incision, instead of the typical four or five incisions used for the band.
